after it opened, and replaced by the reinstatement of the old bus stop in
Kingsway. Does anyone know the full story here?

The local newspaper is full of the on-going story - it started in
November after someone died after being hit by a bus
(http://www.barnettimes.co.uk/search/...plea_for_inqui
ry_into_bus_station_death.php) and the subsequent stories into why the
station continued to be used when it was apparently poorly designed.

Is this the one where the pedestrian layout was so poor that people were
hopping over fences and getting hit by buses entering or leaving the bus
station?

Certainly pedestrians hit by buses; unaware of fences.

Tally-Ho Corner is shaped like a big A.

The old bus station occupied a fair bit of land, on which a new, pricy
block of flats was built, as well as some shops.

The new bus station occupied a cross-bar of the A under some of the
building and was being used as a cut-through by buses. This practice has
now been stopped.

Pedestrian priorities were poorly designed.

The M&S Simply Food outlet, inside the A was so inaccessible due to
traffic that it closed.

Horrible. I am no longer mobile enough to use the buses for my monthly
trips to North Finchley, but waiting for a 221 on Kingsway was no joy
either.

If someone got hit by a bus at that old bus station then they must've
been pretty clueless. The sharp turns into it meant that the buses
were never doing more than probably 15mph. And its not hard to spot
a big red 12 foot high double decker. But then some people can't
even spot a train when crossing a level crossing so what do I know...

The M&S Simply Food outlet, inside the A was so inaccessible due to
traffic that it closed.

That and the fact they built it a long walk from the main carpark so
no many people could be bothered to walk there. Also Waitrose is
200 metres down the road and Sainsburys about 400 metres up it
and what with M&S prices ....

An 'inconvenience shop' by any other name!

Thanks.

I noticed today that the reinstated bus stop in Kingsway is so close to the
Ballards Lane traffic lights that it obstructs traffic - when the left
filter arrow into Ballards Lane is green, nothing moves because the traffic
queueing for a green light to turn right blocks the right lane, and the bus
at the stop blocks the left lane. You have to wonder if the people designing
these things have a clue about anything.

In time, everyone will figure out that Christchurch Avenue is a much quicker
route into Ballards Lane... and then the council will put a barrier in that,
at more expense ..... sigh.
