Hot weather precautions
 
Delays on the district line today were being blamed on "hot weather
precautions" by the station announcements.

What precautions are these? I've never heard of them as a cause of
delay before.

Speed restrictions have had to be imposed because the rails have not
been pre-stressed to allow them to expand safely as temperatures rise.

Failure by Metronet to carry out precautions was the actual cause. See
the thread entitled
Peter Hendy: Metronet "have messed up big time".
