New station at Haringey???

In a press release dated 4th May TfL have a article on a station called
"Haringey", How have they kept this "new" station top secret, as it does
not appear on any maps! (yes I am taking the P@#%) Whilst on station names,
can the long suffering punters and staff be further confused by the renaming
of "Thameslink" stations by the "F in circle" people (with Notwork Rail's
approval) to:- "First City Capital Connect" "First Kings Cross Capital
Connect" "First West Hampstead Capital Connect".
Wonder they havn't thought of it already!

The stations with Thameslink in their title are not going to be renamed.
I've read this in at least two separate places. The name applies to the
line not the franchisee - as discussed on here a few days ago.

I was bored enough to phone FCC and ask them just before they took
over, and they assured my they weren't going to rename the stations.

Do tickets not valid via the underground say route Thameslink, or
route FCC?

The former "Thameslink only" tickets were reprogrammed to say "FCC
only" on the day of the change-over.

Why would they be? The last franchisee was named after the route, not
vice verse.

There was a general assumption when FCC launched that there would be a
renaming. The original poster when further and said that Network Rail
had agreed to the rebranding. I was simply replying to that not making
the statement that there would be a change.

The last franchisee was not named after the route. The franchisee was GoVia
Group. The trading name that they used for their services was Thameslink,
which happened to be the same as the franchise name. The current franchisee
is First Group. The trading name that they use is First Capital Connect -
but the name of the franchise, as far as the DfT is concerned, is still
Thameslink.

Similarly, the Midland Main Line franchise is franchised to National Express
and operated using the trading name Midland Mainline and the Inter City East
Coast franchise is franchised to Great North Eastern Railway, who operate it
using their company name.

Not surprising that people get confused, is it?

Sorry to disappoint, but they didn't cock up... the title "Haringey
station upgrades revealed" refers to upgrades of stations in Haringey
(Manor House and Turnpike Lane) rather than of a mythical new Haringey
station!

You're splitting hairs. Govia's operating company for the franchise,
Thameslink Rail Ltd, was named after the route, which was called
Thameslink by Network South East before privatisation.

The current franchisee is First Group. The trading name that
they use is First Capital Connect - but the name of the franchise,
as far as the DfT is concerned, is still Thameslink.

No, the name of the franchise is Thameslink/Great Northern. First
Capital Connect continue to use "Thameslink" to refer to that route
within their overall network.

Similarly, the Midland Main Line franchise is franchised to
National Express and operated using the trading name Midland
Mainline and the Inter City East Coast franchise is franchised to
Great North Eastern Railway, who operate it using their company
name.

Since the general public aren't generally aware of DfT franchise names,
it's less confusing to them than you apparently find it.

Oops! Of course it is now. Touche.

Since I could name every franchise, its franchisee and operating name your
presumption that *I* am finding them confusing is incorrect. ;-)
