Need to go to Twickenham stadium for a concert later in the year and wanted
any local info on where best to park. ideally need to be fairly close, i.e.
5 min walk? So are there any nearby streets where I wont get clamped/towed
away? Or is it easier to just pay a fiver and park at the ground (if there
is such a thing)

Need a quick getaway (so may even leave early to avoid the crowds if needed
or likely to be necessary) as travelling to the airport for a flight.

We tend to park near the Prince Blucher pub on rugby days. There is a fairly
quick shortcut, but I doubt you'll find anywhere within 5 minutes. It takes
5 minutes just to get out of the building and another 5 out of the ground.

alternatively park the car at another station and arrive by train. But
which is the best service? I really wanted to avoid having to come out and
get a train just to reach the car if at all possible.

SW Trains from Waterloo stop at Twickenham, or you can pick it up en
route. Where are you travelling from?

Well, that route from the Prince Blucher is a great one, even on big rugby
international games.

According to that, it's about a mile. You can park in the area, and you
won't be walking with the crowds directly into Twickenham itself. So far
quicker IMO.

I doubt that you will get that close. There are strictly enforced
special parking controls on event days covering an area of about one
mile around the stadium:

There is a large NCP car park in Drummond Place, next to Richmond
Station. Frequent trains to Twickenham, only a few minutes away, but
then you will have a good 10-minute walk to the stadium. The RFU run a
free shuttle bus between Richmond Station and the stadium for rugger
matches, but I don't know if there is anything similar for other types
of event.

On-street parking near the stadium is very unlikely - it is in a densely
populated residential area. You could look for one of the temporary car
parks that often open in school grounds and the like - one is listed at:

and I recommend pre-booking if it is open on the day you want).

think. We use it when we go to rugby. Mind you we only need it for a
couple of hours. I don't know what the maximum stay is. There's traffic
chaos around the ground afterwards. When the Stones last played there
it was awful, far worse than I've ever seen on a matchday. It could be
that a lot of rugby fans still travel by public transport.

Or more likely that the rugby fans go to Twickenham more often, so know
places to park and which roads are busier when, whereas most Stones fans
will have gone possibly for the first time to Twickenham, so were trying to
find somewhere close to the stadium to park, going round and round and
adding to the congestion.

If I can do that when I'm in my 60's I'll be happy!

Actually another reason for the post-concert traffic problems might be
that concerts tend to finish later and public transport is not that
relaible at the best of times. There have been relatively few evening
kick-off at Twickemham, so the problem has really occured there yet.
