You are terminally up tight if you took me seriously.
Sorry, but I SERIOUSLY object to queue-jumping. I put people who do so on a similar moral plane to paedophiles. More certainly so for being so desperately concerned over the order or precedence in boarding a bus. Again, sorry, but I happen to believe in fairness.- I ALWAYS have the correct change available. Congratulations. Do you manage to minimise the coinage using only one fifty and one twenty pence piece? Matthew If I have a 50 and a 20 coin then, yes of course that is what I would use. Marc. |

Sorry, but I SERIOUSLY object to queue-jumping. I put people who do so on a
similar moral plane to paedophiles. !!! What twaddle. Much more of that and you've lost by default. Neil Well, you are entitled to your opinion. Good for you if you wish to applaud queue-jumping. As you sow shall you reap. Maybe one day you will be in a queue when it really matters, e.g. at a check-in at the airport waiting for a flight to a wedding or funeral, and someone barges their way in front of you, thus taking the last available seat on the one remaining flight that will get you there in time. Then maybe you will remember what you have written, and agree that queueing is not such a bad idea, and queue jumpers not such wonderful people. Marc. |

Neil Well, you are entitled to your opinion. Good for you if you wish to applaud queue-jumping. As you sow shall you reap. There's a difference between applauding something and criticising an unfair criticism of it. Maybe one day you will be in a queue when it really matters, e.g. at a check-in at the airport waiting for a flight to a wedding or funeral, and someone barges their way in front of you, thus taking the last available seat on the one remaining flight that will get you there in time. (1) Standing is allowed on a bus and is not on aeroplanes. (2) Generally speaking, all air passengers have bought tickets in advance. (3) In any case, I don't know of any airlines that will let you board the plane without having first bought a ticket. So your analogy is incredibly bad. But I shouldn't let that get in the way of a good rant, should I? |

My analogy is valid: most airlines overbook, so those at the front of the check-in queue are more likely to be accepted than those at the end. If you think reasoned debate is a "rant", than that says more about you than it does about me. Marc. |

But if you have a ticket for a particular flight, they have to either let you on it *or* get you to your destination another way *or* severely compensate you. Assuming you observe the listed check-in time, of course. I've never been bumped from a flight, but I'm always at the airport well before the time they tell me to have checked in by. If you think reasoned debate is a "rant", than that says more about you than it does about me. Comparing a minor etiquette violation to a major crime may not be a rant, but it certainly isn't reasoned debate. |

I've never been bumped from a flight, but I'm always at the airport well before the time they tell me to have checked in by. Not much use in being over-compensated if you miss a wedding or funeral, which is why I gave those as an example. I agree with early arrival: I too am usually there well before the minimum check-in time. But, in certain Caribbean countries where I have checked in, palm-greasing is necessary to get a guaranteed seat, WHATEVER time one checks in! If you think reasoned debate is a "rant", than that says more about you than it does about me. Comparing a minor etiquette violation to a major crime may not be a rant, but it certainly isn't reasoned debate. Maybe I have overstated my case by comparing a queue-jumper to a paedophile (but I do detest both), but queue jumping is rather more than a mere "minor etiquette violation" and was, until recently, in London, a breach of by-laws. Marc. |

So, you don't even have the grace to accept a concession in debate. With arrogance like that, you should accept the same in return. (but I do detest both), but queue jumping is rather more than a mere "minor etiquette violation" Your opinion. Of course, it is my opinion - what else could it be? Does that make it totally invalid? or are we only allowed to post "opinions" that agree with yours? Marc. |
