I Have 6 pounds in cash I dont want to exchange money i need 2 pounds for the bus to Heathrow and will prolly use the other 4 pounds for restaurant tips my transfer to the qe2 is paid so credit card is best way especially since ill get air miles on it BTW how are you feeling ? Very well. Just not very mobile any more. I have a Freedom Pass and Taxicard so wouldn't need credit cards to tour London... -- Helen D. Vecht: Edgware. |

The credit card itself, and possibly the wallet in which you keep it, which may contain other valuables. The credit card itself can be replaced if it's stolen, unlike cash. As for whatever else is in the wallet, that issue is independent of what I'm pulling out of the wallet. Except that if I usually use credit cards, there probably isn't much cash in my wallet to begin with. If I don't want to pull my wallet out, I keep my credit card in a separate pocket. I keep my CCs well out of reach when on the Tube, but keep my tickets handy. Although London seemed quite safe to me, if I'm worried about losing anything on the Tube, it's cash, not credit cards. (Oh, and a black cotton jacket. I managed to lose that too. Last I saw it, it was traveling on the Piccadilly line, a bit over a month ago.) -- David of Broadway New York, NY, USA |

So the actual exchange rates on your credit card statement are no higher than the interbank rates for that day? You can check he http://www.oanda.com/convert/fxhistory Very nice resource! Thanks. They're not identical, but they're very close. Some days they're a teensy weensy bit higher; other days they're a teensy weensy bit lower. But I also get a rebate (I think it's 1%, and to my surprise it appears to include overseas transactions), so I undoubtedly come out ahead with the credit card. -- David of Broadway New York, NY, USA |
