"The Olympics will be late and over budget"
John Rowland wrote: http://www.nceplus.co.uk/news/news_a...il_engineering Sports minister Dick Caborn insisted that the projects were on track and added he was disappointed with Lemley's comments. Let's think about this, who would you believe, a lieing scum bag politician or Jack Lemley. Can anybody remember, did Jack Lemley head up TML or Euro Tunnel. I can't say that I have encountered much mobilsation of labour considering that this is only 5 years away. I think that London council tax payers and lottery ticket buyers had better start digging into their pockets. And that doesn't even take into account overuns on the the likes of ELLx. Kevin |

John Rowland wrote: http://www.nceplus.co.uk/news/news_a...il_engineering I've just spent more of my life than I'm strictly speaking happy about researching and writing an article on this very subject. Consensus in the industry seems to be, going on past Olympics, that it'll be ready for July 2012 because it's too big and too high profile not to. But to achieve that costs are likely to soar - the less time there is to do stuff, the more expensive it becomes to do it. You'll notice the government is being very, very cagey about giving out cost estimates. One suspects that they don't want anyone to be able to pin a figure on them. Jonn |

Well, according to a programme on television last night ("London Inside Out" or a similar name), the Olympic Delivery Authority or whatever they're called don't even own all of the land required yet! Right in the middle of the site is a plot of allotments which, although no doubt subject to compulsory purchase, has not actually been purchased yet and would not be purchased until an alternative site has been found for the evictees - something that is far from being concluded even at this stage! If building and other costs soar over the estimates originally provided, as is bound to be case, why should already hard-pressed London taxpayers pay any of this? Surely those who campaigned to have the Olympics, and those who provided inaccurate estaimates should pay for their deceit and/or negligence. Marc. |

Marc. Not too great a problem really, the main athletic staduium is only used for about a week, and the allotments could be left in between where the javelin and discuss land - it would give the stadium that quintessentially British look and feel surely?
