Current estimates are around £3.5 billion Thats a heck of a lot of money for a bit of track remodelling and platform extensions. Are they going to gold plate the platforms or something? Does this include the cost of the trains? Can't see Gordon Brown coughing up that much quite frankly. Thameslink 3000 I think. The platform extensions go as far as Cambridge ... That long? It would explain the £3.5bn bill, I suppose. :-) -- Richard J. (to e-mail me, swap uk and yon in address) |

Where will the crossing movements be? The terminating trains at Blackfriars are being diverted to new platforms on the west side, Charing Cross trains get new tracks to London Bridge to keep them away from TL, and then further east there's a new diveunder to let TL cross over the services via Lewisham without conflict. Result: no crossing movements. -- Clive D.W. Feather Is there a trackplan available anywhere ? Baz |

Thats a heck of a lot of money for a bit of track remodelling and platform extensions. It's mostly the cost of completely rebuilding Blackfriars (which seriously needs it). I'm not sure if London Bridge is included as well. U |

Why would it need new substations on the AC section? Surely that has enough capacity to cope already? Oh, you are a laugh! Power supply is a major problem all the way from King's Cross to King';s Lynn. FCC are hoping to benefit from a Network Actually muppet , I was thinking of the current Thameslink line to bedford, but feel free to keep smiling. Oh , but if the power supply is such a major problem from Kings Cross how come those 140mph 6300 hp class 91s manage to pull away from it then with a full length 225 train? Not to mention the large number of local services running at the same time (some of which no doubt disappear once thameslink starts to use the route). Rail booster transformer upgrade between Royston and Shepreth Branch Junction next year but there is still no feeder station North of Milton. This makes it almost (but not quite) impossible to run 8-coach trains North of Cambridge. Actually you could run any length of train you wanted , since as a great mind such as yourself should know the power drawn depends on how quickly you wish to accelerate and the gradiants on the line. And how many trains do they need to go to Brighton anyway given Southern run a very frequent service there already? Also AFAIK there is nowhere Thameslink serves in south london that isn't already served by another service. Thameslink provides the local service between Brighton and Three Bridges, which is only served by the Watford Junction service from Southern. -- Terry Harper Website Coordinator, The Omnibus Society http://www.omnibussoc.org |
