It also probably depends upon whether you have a ban on cycles being carried
(as we do on arrivals prior to 09:45).

Okay, perhaps i was exaggerating a little. But still, the beauty of
the bike + train combination is that you can cycle at both ends of the
trip. Cycle parking is based on people not doing this.

Can you imagine what rush hour trains would look like if a significant
percentage had a bike on the train with them...? shudder

As has been stated - M'bone has bike racks on the platform which are very
heavily used for overnight storage.

Hence my reference to wrong times of day. I travel when bikes are allowed
pretty well every day I travel (only 3 each week as a rule).

All too clearly. I bet they would not make the luggage van
conspicuous enough, with the result that cyclists, not knowing to
which end they should take their bikes, would all be running up and
down the platform.

Every train at King's Cross has a booked and timetabled platform.

Do they still have that station announcer who yells at people (to go
back to the concourse) who "guess" the platform before it's published?

Yes. (They all do it to an extent, but there's one who seems keener
than the rest.) It usually only happens at peak times when either
a departure, or the announcement of its platform, has been
delayed and I can understand why they do it. Although I'm also
guilty of being one of the lurkers who avoids going back
to join Queue A...

They can't make it much more inconspicuous than it is currently at
Marylebone...

The luggage van? When did you last see one of those on a (inner or outer)
suburban train?
