![]() Thanks David has I said not interested really but was very curious due to the subject " trains to the semi final"SEMI FINAL God I really should read and digest what I am seeing before opening my gob now it all makes sense ![]() Villa Park has been a traditional venue for FA Cup Semi Finals, which must be played at a neutral ground, for many years. Its central location makes it an ideal choice helped also by the perennial failure of Birmingham teams to advance through to the later stages of the competition thanks to draws such as Villa's first games this year against Chelsea in the League Cup and Manchester Utd in the FA Cup, whilst the Tottenhams of this World (who must surely have a special ball in the draw) get Woking or Dagenham and Redbridge and of course never ever away from White Hart Lane. Yours Bitter and Twisted P.S. From next season, the FA are proposing that FA Cup semi-finals, as well as the final itself, should all be played at Wembley, which was a bad idea last time it was tried but I suppose they need to get their money back. |

Aston Station's nearly twice the distance, even if you're at the Holte End. So I suppose it must be your second suggestion i.e crowd segregation. I note the comment "To ensure everyone gets home, in the event of extra time and penalties we will be holding the trains to depart after the game." AFAIK there aren't sidings at Aston to hold trains without blocking the line. Where is the closest suitable holding location - Bescot? -- David I'd have thought that with a few amendments there would be capacity for them to stable in two of the platforms at Walsall, or they could go to Soho- although I'm not sure how full the latter gets at weekends now, not having been that way in about 14 years. |

I notice many where blaming the Italian police the other night for what happened RUBBISH if people had just gone to the game without filling up with booze first watched the game and went straight home afterwards the police would have fallen asleep due to being bored. There was none of this crap back in the days when I went to watch PNE and Tom Finney occasionally on a Saturday afternoon . I'm not going to defend football supporters that cause trouble (which, fortunately is only a minority or it would be carnage) but from all the reports I've read and people in the media I've spoken to, it seems that in the case of the ManU/Roma game, it was the police that provoked the English fans and goaded them on. Sadly, the Italian riot police (many wearing masks and no ID) seemed well up for a fight and acted far worse than any hooligan from any team/country. If you were fairly low paid, got given a uniform and riot gear with no way for anyone to identify you, would you perhaps be tempted to act differently? The only difference between them and the fan that was 'up for it' is the fact one is getting paid and won't be done. More telling is the fact that Italian football fans will tell you about the problems they have at certain clubs on a regular basis, yet it is only really news when English fans are involved. Allegedly and wrongly. Some of my chums have done a bit of work recently on transport arrangements for games at Old Trafford. The bulk of home support comes from the Manchester area, and an elephant lot of them walk to the ground. It's the sheer scale of MU support that makes it look as though the M6 is full of fans on a match day. -- Joyce Whitchurch, Stalybridge, UK ================================= |

Isn't it because the LDB sysyem can't cope with a change of operator 'en route', so through services run by Silverlink/Central show as Silverlink in the down, and Central in the up directions? IIRC the same happens with Scotrail at Newcastle, arrivals via Carlisle (crewed by Northern) show as Scotrail, and all the departures show Northern. Paul |

Is this because they are using the Desiros rather than 321s? Does anyone know what stock they used on the other special to the match? Looking at the fare, there must have been something else thrown in, maybe a Class 81-85 and 14 MK1's maybe? They could always shunt along the platform at Aston to let the supporters off in two goes! ................................................ Travel details for Villa Park Due to the expected overcrowding of scheduled trains coming back from Birmingham on the evening of the match Watford have arranged for two Special Trains to be laid on through Portman Travel. All bookings are to be made direct through the travel company. The return ticket prices will start at 38, departing from Watford Junction at approx 1.00pm and arriving back into Watford Junction at approx 10.30pm. Please Note: This will be a direct service and will have no stops on route or return. Final train timings will be confirmed on the train ticket. The return time of the train will be delayed should the match go into extra time. Train tickets can be purchased from Thursday morning (March 29th) at 9am by calling 020 8843 8820. There will undoubtedly be heavy demand at this time so Portman Travel would like to thank you in advance for your patience when booking. Should you require any further information please email: |
