The new High Frequency Services map has all but the North London Line
shown with very narrow orange borders to indicate their infrequency. I
wasn't expecting any more, but it's still a shock to see it
illustrated so bluntly.

Wandsworth Road station, especially since it will be on the tube map but
Wandsworth Town won't.

Knowing the area somewhat, I have to say I found it difficult to come
up with a decent alternative name given that the station's location is
on the edge of Battersea, Clapham and Stockwell (just about).
Wandsworth Road, like many other main thoroughfares, is certainly
spoken about as a location identifier almost in it's own right - i.e.
x, y or z house/shop/flat is "just off Wandsworth Road".

If I was a Victorian railway entrepreneur I might have called the
station North Clapham, but since a certain subterranean railway line
has used a similar name for their nearby station I'd suggest that
using that name would be a pretty bad idea!

Larkhall is the 'wildcard' name that I came up with - see The Friends
of Larkhall Park's website, in particular the "Naming of the Park"
section on this page...

location of the old Lark Hall, and the current Larkhall pub and
Larkhall park are all a half-mile to the north east (though Larkhall
Primary School on Smedley Street is closer). Plus I really don't think

Nonetheless I see your point John, it could lead to confusion. But,
perhaps, in a city such as London, cest la vie - after all I'm sure
people get confused about Edgware and Edgware Road stations as well as
East/West/Central Finchley and Finchley Road stations, and I'm sure
that at some point tourists have ended up paying a visit to Elephant &
Castle shopping centre as opposed to the Victoria & Albert after
muddling up Kennington and Kensington.

Yes, but that's a very long road, and nearly half of it is nearer to
Stockwell or Vauxhall stations.

It always amazes me that people use "Green Lanes" as a place name, as if

I thought of Larkhall before my earlier post, but it made me think of
Chingford.... although the part of Chingford is spelled Lark*s*hall.

"Heathbrook Park" is the best I can do - I'm sure it would cause house
prices to go up for a while! As for "Do people use it as an area name?",
they will when it's on the tube map.

I am personally aware of people who have lost time and money over those
particular confusions.

Kensington, Kennington, Canning Town and Camden Town are a potentially
confusable foursome, although I'm not personally aware of anyone mistaking
these.

I have come across confusion between the Kennington Oval and the
Kensington Oval (admittedly a different Kensington!)

I know, but it's only half a mile from Clapham Common, and too many people
would be inconvenienced by its renaming. Wandsworth Road is 2 miles from
anything that might be called Wandsworth (except the borough!) and the
creation of London Overground with associated sign-painting and map changing
means you can rename it cheaply.

Surely it isn't going to become part of London Overground until phase
two of the ELLX, whenever that might be?

That said, there are stations that I think could do with renaming at
this point. Caledonian Road and Barnsbury, and Finchley Road and
Frognal, both strike me as unnecessarily confusing names. Barnsbury
and Frognal seem less likely to encourage people to attempt awkward
changes.

Also, does anyone know why Camden Town/Camden Road isn't being
highlighted as an interchange? It can't be any less convenient than
Fenchurch Street-Tower Hill. The only reason I can think of for not
marking it as such is that TfL are worrying about overcrowding at
Camden Town.
