How far could District line trains head down the heathrow branch of
the piccadilly line before they're out of gauge? Do they ever go a short way down any more to use the test track for example? B2003 |

B2003 The last place they could reverse would be Hounslow Central. There is a "Surface Stock Detector" after that would maintain the WB Advance Starter at Danger, should the train wish to be de-roofed! In reality, if a D Stock did accept a wrong signal at Acton Town, it would be reversed at Northfields Depot, though if the depot can't be used a trip to Hounslow would be needed! |

That seems a strange thing to do , you'd have thought they'd have kept them at surface stock clearance just in case. Unless rebuilding them to tube stock gauge was so much cheaper. Can't see why it would have been though. B2003 |

Can't see why it would have been though. Both the bridges mentioned (Kingsley Road and Lampton Road) are rail bridges *over* a road, so the only gauge issue would be the width of the train. In the case of Lampton Road, it's west of the crossover anyway. -- Richard J. (to email me, swap 'uk' and 'yon' in address) |

In reality, if the D Stock could not reverse via the depot, due to a possesion (most likely reason) then they would keep it in the local platform until the depot could be used. |
