Are there any positions from
which the bridge can easily be observed/photographed whilst it is
being pushed into position?

Allen Gardens, which is the little park by the old Shoreditch
station. See this map:

gh.html

(the bridge has been assembled in the area marked "embankment ramp")

Thanks for the excellent map. I went there on Thursday (1st May)
and took some photos which are at http://rjnews.fotopic.net in
the collection "ELLX Shoreditch". I plan to take more photos
tomorrow (though not during the 4 a.m. session!).

They have a couple of Webcams running at:

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/proj...dservices/8152
..aspx

Hopefully they won't ne overwhelmed like the SHoreditch ones were a
few weeks ago...

When is the push starting? No sign of movement on the webcams this
morning.

So I see. How much further has the push got to go? I can see a bit of
fresh concrete pier in the near left of the top camera. Is the span going
to drop onto that?

No, that pier isn't involved. The bridge has a great big extension on
the front (the grey bit where it tapers), so what they've got to do is
move it so the bridge proper is on the current pier. But first they've
got to adjust the counterweights, move it until the wheels at the big
can go no further, adjust the counterweights again so the weight is no
longer on the wheels, and remove them, then slide it along again until
either end is balanced right on the piers.

(I was inexplicably given an invite to the viewing gallery by the TfL
press office, and so have been rubbing shoulders with the big cheeses
that came up with this scheme)

Probably because you are about to be invited to run the TfL website, cos
theirs isn't as informative as yours...

Hardly inexplicable. They will want you "on side" given the interest
your site generates.

Which viewing gallery was that? The western one above Brick Lane, or the
eastern one level with the starting position of the "back" of the bridge?

I managed to get on to the latter (the security guy was evidently in a
holiday mood). My photos from there and elsewhere have been added to the
"ELLX Shoreditch" collection at http://rjnews.fotopic.net , with photos M1
to M9 and R3, R4 being new today.

As far as I could tell it seemed to be going well today. Brick Lane and the
surrounding streets were buzzing as usual on a Sunday, with most people
there seemingly oblivious to the engineering marvel taking place behind
them.
