Hello!

There's a village called Wivenhoe, in the depths of Essex. It's, well,
mostly harmless, really.

So why is there a street called Wivenhoe Court in Hounslow? He

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.465926%2C-0.376346

And why is there another one in Frome, Somerset? He

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.236813%2C-2.299442

In the latter case, there seems to be an estate with streets whose names
all start with a 'wi' sound, and i suppose whoever did the names just came
across Wivenhoe in a gazetter or something.

The former is more of a puzzle. None of the names of surrounding streets
have any link that i can see. A MYSTERY!

It involves police, bailiffs, vampires and a portal to hell under a
tower block in Hackney.

Why shouldn't there be?

And why is there another one in Frome, Somerset?

There's also a Wivenhoe Close in Peckham.

A MYSTERY!

I don't see any mystery. If there was no street in London with Wivenhoe in
the name, that would be more of a mystery.

I'm not saying there shouldn't. But things don't happen without reasons.
Except in quantum mechanics and the civil service.

And why is there another one in Frome, Somerset?

THE MYSTERY DEEPENS!

You think? Are there streets named after all of England's umpty hojillion
villages in London?

Probably not, but there's probably several streets named after each coastal
town.
looks

3 Frinton Roads in London and a 4th in Sidcup.
Numerous Walton Roads and Walton Avenues (but there are also numerous
villages called Walton)
1 Jaywick Close in York
1 Heybridge Avenue in Streatham
2 Maldon Roads in London
Dovercourt Road in Dulwich

In the USA it's said that building estate developers always name the
streets after the things that their new estate has destroyed.

Perhaps this developer wished the borders to be maintained using a
particular garden implement?

I can't understand why Fingringhoe has not made it into numerous road names.

eight. Make of that what you will!
