Anyone else notice the north London traffic has suddenly become the same as
before the congestion charge was introduced? So has Ken reversed the traffic light settings to start his new £10 charge scheme? daveF |

writes Anyone else notice the north London traffic has suddenly become the same as before the congestion charge was introduced? The North Circ never did get any better, and in fact the roads round the edge of the congestion area will inevitably get busier. I know several people who now drive miles out of their way to avoid the congestion charge. All Ken did was empty Westminster and push more traffic onto the rat runs. So has Ken reversed the traffic light settings to start his new £10 charge scheme? Lets face it the congestion charge was always about Ken raising revenue for his pets schemes. Now the current scheme isn't giving him enough money of course he'll look at either raising the charge, or extending the area covered. He won't be happy until it covers the inside of the M25 ! Did I mention you can vote the ******* out of office in 2004 ?? :-) -- Edward Cowling London UK |

He might have his failings but at least KL is a Londoner who loves London and has a history of working for Londoners. Of course, he's got some things wrong but at least his head and heart are in the right place. What's the realistic alternative? A mainstream career party politician who sees the London Mayorship as a short-term stepping stone on his way up the ladder? The day the London Mayor role becomes just another rung on the Westminster ladder is the day it becomes worthless. |

Of course, he's got some things wrong but at least his head and heart are in the right place. Oh dear someone else has fallen for the con trick. Ken cares about Ken. He is a self seeking loner who would sell his granny to get a bit more power. Did you learn nothing from his back stabbing days at the GLC ? What's the realistic alternative? A mainstream career party politician who sees the London Mayorship as a short-term stepping stone on his way up the ladder? The day the London Mayor role becomes just another rung on the Westminster ladder is the day it becomes worthless. It is worthless ! Apart from annoying a few pigeons in Trafalgar square and stopping Ken from doing any real damage the role is fairly pointless. Mainly because the guy is an independent. We should have a head of the GLA elected by members. Then give the role a few teeth and a decent budget, so they don't have to resort to highway robbery. -- Edward Cowling London UK |

He might have his failings but at least KL is a Londoner who loves London and has a history of working for Londoners. I'm a Londoner who has lived through Ken's GLC and his recent sequel. It would be interesting to hear about all this historical work that he has done for me. Of course, he's got some things wrong but at least his head and heart are in the right place. Depends if you think 'the left' is the right place or not, doesn't it? And personally I do not. What's the realistic alternative? A mainstream career party politician who sees the London Mayorship as a short-term stepping stone on his way up the ladder? The day the London Mayor role becomes just another rung on the Westminster ladder is the day it becomes worthless. Oh please. Very few politicians are as careerist as Ken Livingstone. Couldn't get anywhere within the Labour party, so switched to a supposedly independent ticket, while all the time supporting his buddies on the left of the party. He has ruthlessly and cynically capitalised on Londoner's stupidity, gluttony for punishment, and short memories. I reckon we don't need a mayor OR a GLA, and there's way way too many tiers of government as it is, all of it at a price. BTN |
