Never really used it much in my life, but took a detour to see what
they've done to it while it was closed. Seemed a little odd to me - what was the reasoning behind turning a 2 platform station into a 1 platform station? Were turnaround times and platform congestion so bad previously that sacrificing a platform was the best option? Also, has there been any real improvement on facilities? Like I said, never used it much, but it seemed like there had been no improvements to what was previously a pretty duff station. |

The problem was insufficient room to extend both of the platforms to 3 car length (which was the primary reason for the rebuild). To make two 3 car platforms would have required widening the viaduct, which would have been considerably more costly. |

Originally it was built for single units, and later lengthened for 2 units. Of course, since Bank DLR opened most trains go there. Peter |

Remember the approach to TG was single-track anyway, so the sacrifice in capacity is not all that dramatic. -- John Band john at johnband dot org www.johnband.org |
