One side has ticket gates and the other doesn't! How is this a good idea?

I noticed that a couple of months ago, on my first visit to Finchley Central
for some years - the station had acquired lifts and new loos as well as
barriers in the meantime. Presumably it's because there aren't normally any
staff based at the ungated entrance, and staff would be needed to supervise
a gateline

It isn't but there is a massive utility main under the ground and it is
impossible to cost effectively erect a small enclosure to provide
appropriate weather protection for a gateline in that location. *I was
involved in the early site meetings for a scheme for that station.
Others who followed, after I'd left the project team, got the more
detailed site conditions information which rendered an affordable
solution impossible. *Given we tolerate validator based validation at
cross platform locals, at Mill Hill East and Roding Valley it is not the
end of the world. *I would mention the charging regime but it would tip
certain group members into their usual apoplexy (waves to MIG :-) *)

Allo.

And now that the Thames has been removed, the barbarian hordes of
South London can come up there and GET you all.
