Looks nasty. Its not often you hear of doubledeckers falling over
though http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8415726.stm "Passengers hurt as bus overturns Four people were seriously injured when a lorry collided with a double- decker bus and shed its load of steel girders in south-west London. Fire crews had to cut a number of passengers out of the route C3 bus after the incident which happened in Battersea at about 0830 GMT. The girders apparently smashed through windows. The badly injured, including the driver, were taken to hospital. Another 17 have been treated in hospital for minor injuries. The crash happened at the junction of Plough Road and St John's Hill. Smashed windows There were about 25 people on board the bus at the time. Frank Keogh, a reporter from the BBC Sport website who lives locally, saw the aftermath. He said: "The bus was travelling uphill. The lorry was carrying steel girders and apparently shed part of its load. "The girders crashed into the bus." Mr Keogh continued: "Firefighters and emergency services are all at the scene. There is a lot of sleet coming down. "The bus is completely on its side. The lorry is nearby and it appears the girders smashed through the windows of the bus." Full investigation A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Fifteen patients were treated at the scene and transported to hospital. "Three patients were taken as a priority - a 27-year-old woman and a 30-year-old to St George's Hospital, and a 45-year-old man to Chelsea and Westminster. "12 patients were transported to hospital with minor injuries - six to Chelsea and Westminster, four to St Thomas' and two to Charing Cross." A Transport for London spokesman said: "The police and emergency services are attending the scene and we are working closely with them. "There will be a full investigation into this incident." Plough Road, near Clapham Junction Rail station, remains closed. " Neill |
