I was on a number 17 bus the other day, destination Archway. As we
passed by St. Paul's Cathedral a number 4 bus, also destination Archway, was heading in the opposite direction. I wonder how many other places are there where one can catch a bus to the same destination from either side of the road? -- John Ray |

There are probably a few bus routes that do circular trips around housing estates or hospital grounds before continuing on their way. Can't think of any offhand in london though. Theres a few routes down in Redhill that do it however. B2003 |

Theres a few routes down in Redhill that do it however. There are a couple of local Harrow bus routes that do this by Northwick Park station. The road they run on has parked cars on both sides, which doesn't leave room for buses to pass, so all the buses travel east to west on it, regardless of where they're going (even though the road isn't one-way). |

I wonder how many other places are there where one can catch a bus to the same destination from either side of the road? The bus's destination, or yours? To get to Stockley Park from Hayes and Harlington you can take the U5 or the 350 in opposite directions, thought the buses don't terminate there. At 8:30 am it is fun to see streams of people who work in Stockley Park dashing across the road in the path of a U5 which has turned up first (and also in the path of any other traffic that happens that way) However to get to Uxbridge from Stockley Park you can take the U5 or the A10 in opposite directions, and both buses do terminate there. Though the U5 would be a bad idea (as would the 4 in your case) The road they run on has parked cars on both sides, which doesn't leave room for buses to pass, so all the buses travel east to west on it This doesn't necessarily produce what the OP wanted, though from the spider map it does look like the 114 and H9 can be used to get to Northwick Park from either side of the road at South Harrow. |

From Lewisham High Street you can get a 436 to Victoria on one side of the road and a 185 to Victoria on the other side of the road (the bus's destination in both cases). |

Agreed, it's the converse of what the OP wanted, but relates to Boltar's comment. I was thinking of the H9 and H19 routes, which both serve Northwick Park Underground station, at stops on the same side of Northwick Avenue, whether they're going to or from Harrow bus station. |

The 4 runs from Waterloo to Archway and the 17 runs from London Bridge to Archway. -- John Ray |

Thanks - I hadn't thought of that possibility. I was thinking more of two different services running, at one point on their routes, in opposite directions but terminating at the same place. Between Swiss Cottage and the O2 Centre, the 13 terminating at Golders Green runs northward and the 268 terminating at Golders Green runs southward. In New Southgate Station Road, the 221 terminating at Turnpike Lane runs eastward and the 232 terminating at Turnpike Lane runs westward. At Crouch End Broadway the 41 terminating at Archway runs southward and the W5 terminating at Archway runs northward. Heath Road in Twickenham has the 281 terminating at Hounslow running eastward and the 110 terminating at Hounslow running westward. I found those in about ten minutes. I imagine there are dozens or even hundreds of examples. -- We are the Strasbourg. Referendum is futile. |
