But your initial rant was that HEx fares are extortionate, which in
context they are not.

For a train fare they are given the distance. Why suffer the hassle of
rail transport for not far off the price of a taxi?

Convenience. Plus if the taxi does get stuck in a solid jam you can always
get out and find a train. If the train gets stuck however, you're stuck
unless it happens at a station.

Thats never going to happen again. Other countries manage to run their
metro systems efficiently and with pride and they take the job seriously.
Here its the usual half hearted can't-be-arsed British indifference. If
something goes wrong, well who cares eh? The passengers can just sod off
and get a bus or something. Put out a few standard issue excuses over the
tannoy and leave it at that. Maybe it'll be fixed in an hour , maybe it
won't. Manyana man...

had passed the last exit (M26 Wrotham) before the accident happened.

Many travel insurance policies will pay out if you miss a flight because of
public transport delays; most won't pay out if you are delayed by a traffic
jam or a breakdown when in your own car.

off the M25 between the M26 and Clackett lane services not to mention the staff
exits from the services themselves. So theres really no excuse for people being
stuck for that long except the police being the usual bloody minded jobsworths
that they tend to be. Other countries usually manage to free up at least one
lane even when theres a bad crash to let stuck vehicles through, but not here.

Could be a long wait, happened to me once in 40 odd years. I've been stuck on
