I love the wheel - it's audacious and brilliant - who'd a thunk it'd ever actually happen, a slice of the funfair ever so nearly opposite Parliament, and yet it did. The latter is of course a bit of a neo- Gothic theme park exhibit anyway. And then there's the rather preposterous Tower Bridge down river too of course, which is great too. So, who's going to resurrect the somewhat outlandish idea of a cable car link between Covent Garden and the South Bank? (ObTransport - London Eye still refer to a ride as a "flight", a legacy of the now discontinued BA sponsorship.) |

Re the cable car, where would you put its base by Covent Garden? Not a lot of free space there. |

writes Re the cable car, where would you put its base by Covent Garden? Not a lot of free space there. I think the proposal (which dates back to 1995) was to incorporate it into the rebuilding of the Royal Opera House. But it was a proposal that never got off the ground, if you see what I mean. -- Paul Terry |

The initial planning permission was for five years, but it was extended without controversy. Luckily, it's been kept in good nick, rather than being allowed to deteriorate like some other millennium celebratory buildings. |
