Noticed today there's a significant amount of steelwork in place now, with
the deck being installed. Wonder what they'll use it for if Thameslink takes the big hit many are predicting... Paul S |

The "big hit" is more likely to be to delay completion by a year to spread the expenditure over a greater number of financial years. Crossrail is also likely to be delayed by a year. Strenuous "value engineering" efforts are already under way to reduce the overall cost. The East London River Crossing, or whatever it is called now, will also finally be given the go-ahead. That's a road, not a railway project, but it may be of interest because it parallels more than one rail route. |

Turn up early and buy in bulk and it's cheap enough Mr A - you can then have a pint at the Market Porter before heading back to your market stall to flog said veg to the masses whilst further finessing your vocal dexterity. (Though if you've got the tenacity to do a bit of discreet market bartering with the Johnny-come-lately Turkey burger folk and their ilk then they often seem game to cut the price a little.) |

The "big hit" is more likely to be to delay completion by a year to spread the expenditure over a greater number of financial years. That's a change in the rules It used to be that 100% of the cost was allocated to the year that the work started and was one of the reasons why large transport works never got authorised. tim |
