There is no transmission of Train Desciptions (Destinations) at all on the Hammersmith branch, nor is there a diagram of the area mentioned above. Edgware Road (do get TDs from Baker Street and Earl's Court) and Hammersmith signal cabins simply route the trains according to timetable order unless advised otherwise. The latter is true for another Z1 area of the SSR. Elsewhere on the Piccadilly line for instance, trains do have TDs, so the Dot Matrix piggybacks off of this. It is not unknown though for one system to be correct and the other not! Do you know why Baron's Court's Picc indicator board no longer work? I'm assuming it's been replaced with a new facsimile of the old one that needs the new Picc signalling to control it. As that's years away, would this mean that it'll be dead for a very long time to come? |

Perhaps LU should just use a completely seperate method of running the next train indicators , perhaps using radio tags on the trains braodcasting the trains position to trackside receivers which update the next stations board. After all, if they can get it to work in the far more complicated scenario of buses it shouldn't be too hard with trains. B2003 There was a plan to use the data from Manual Electronic Logging to make it viewable in a customer facing way and have them in ticket halls using the journey time from Hammersmith and Edgware Road as guestimates. I don't think that ever happened (though the screens were viewable on the LU Intranet) and MEL has been removed from some locations as it is rubbish - They've gone back to box sheets with carbon paper! The Connect radio is used to transmit train numbers in a certain [station] cell to the Trackernet, it simply shows the train number in the station area on the diagram. Trackernet data can also be used on DMIs, it's used on the Circle to display an ETA at Aldgate for example (the signalling system itself won't know until the train is just outside) |

I believe that the new ones work with the old equipment (Gloucester Road District and Acton Town come to mind). |

It's an 'heritage' style lightbox with illuminated arrows, but I think it's actually a replacement for the old one. |
