is *very* clear that they're *not* valid.

I've seen lots of speculation but absolutely no definitive statement either
way.

The games-travelcard-map (linked to earlier) says they definitely
aren't.

It's not yet clear to what extent a 'Games Travelcard' differs in
validity from the sundry varieties of inboundary/outboundary Day/Period
Travelcards.

ATOC said that there would be special fares, valid for return home till
the following mid-day[1], I wonder if the Olympic Travelcard will be the
same.

As for the Olympic Travelcard being available only on "some" National
Rail services, that would seem to be a reference to the exclusion on
Heathrow Connect beyond Hayes. And the truism that you won't find trains
run by East Coast, EMT etc, because they don't have a stop within the
London area other than the terminus.

I wonder if they will make an announcement clarifying whether or not
split ticketing is allowed (ie does the train have to stop at the
splitting station).

I very much doubt it.

They won't be expecting a load of train anoraks to be buying event tickets
just so that they can use the special travel card to bash some rare
track/traction.

They're expecting normals who, if they aren't already starting their
journey that day inside London, will be buying a ticket to London
Terminals without a second thought

I thought I was probably one of a very small number of people buying the
combination I use for a day return from Somerset up to London. Last time I
did it the ticket seller made it clear I was by no means the only person
doing it. I think more people are getting the message that a bit of
creativity is required to get the best price out of the railways.

They don't, they pay to send the buying agent of their customer to the
opening ceremony.

It's corporate hospitality, not bribery. And without the hospitality
money, most major sporting venues would face ruin.

The guidance information say that anything more than minimal sums of
corporate hospitality counts as bribery. What it hasn't defined yet is the
sum, but it very likely to be a total spend of under 100 pounds per head and
certainly nowhere near 1000 for a ticket with food/drinks on top.

The sports will have to learn to cope!

And it is largely the money. At Beijing corporate "no-shows" were
responsible for a lot of the rows of empty seats that we saw.

It will be interesting to see if the Olympics committee go through with
their plan to give away seats at the last minute if corporate seats are
unoccupied 45 minutes before the start of an event.

And what about the reportedly 14,000 Olympic tickets which are being
distributed as government hospitality? (Boris alone has 2,000).
