Most websites I have visited say it takes 2 weeks for standard mail delivery. Any USA travel agents that could arrange delivery in less time so I can be sure to have it prior to departure? The 2 week time frame is cutting things a bit close with mail not reliable. That pass seems to be about $43USD for a 4 day pass good for zones 1-6 all day. If I can't get that pass, what is available once I get to London? I have heard my choice is only a 7 day pass which is not good during the mornings. What is the current price for such a pass? Thanks, Miles |

Is it possible to obtain a visitors travelcard in the USA on short notice? I believe you buy a voucher which is then exchanged in London at any tube station for a Visitors T/C. Couldn't you get the voucher from a travel-agent in person fairly quickly? That pass seems to be about $43USD for a 4 day pass good for zones 1-6 all day. If I can't get that pass, what is available once I get to London? I have heard my choice is only a 7 day pass which is not good during the mornings. What is the current price for such a pass? A seven day Travel card will cost you for all zones will cost you GBP38.30 after the fare increase from January 4th '04 You can use it at any time of day on the underground, buses and night-buses, Dockland's Light Railway, Tramlink and National Rail within those zones. You will also need a photocard. These are easy to get; just take a passport size photo to any tube station and one will be made up at no cost. You should decide if you really need all zones or whether (if you are making only the occasional journey outside Zones 1 and 2 if it would be cheaper to buy extension tickets as and when you need them or some other combination of zones) You be able to use any sort of travel card on all buses within zones 1 -6. Anyway, from that date, there will only be one bus zone. You will also have the choice of buying your 7 day card on Oyster Card instead of a magnetic ticket by paying a GBP3.00 refundable deposit. -- Kat Reality is the leading cause of stress among those in touch with it. |

There are lots of options available in London but a 7-day pass not valid in the morning peak is not one of them: all 7 day cards are valid at any time of day. There are no 4-day cards sold in London, but you could buy 4 separate 1-day cards for successive days. These are sold up to 4 days in advance so you could buy all four cards at the same time when you first arrive. On Monday-Friday you can buy either off-peak cards, which you can't use in the morning before 0930, or peak cards which you can use any time. You can also buy a thing called an LT card which is valid at any time of day, but you can't use on national rail services. Assuming that your first day in London is 11 January, which is a Sunday, you want to be about before 0930 each day, you need all 6 zones, but you don't need to use national rail services, then for four days you could buy 3 LT cards for Monday-Wednesday = £24.60 and 1 1-day travelcard for Sunday at £5.40 - total cost £30 or about US$53 . Are you sure that you need all 6 zones? Most of London's tourist sights are in zones 1 and 2. If you only expect to make one journey in a day before 0930 it may be better to buy a single fare for that, then an off-peak travelcard for the rest of the day. Look at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/fares-tick...04/index.shtml for full details, and http://www.jackdaw.u-net.com/ukfaq/trcard.html where I've put together some simple questions and answers on travelcards Martin |

Go to www.ticketsto.com . They offer second day and overnight
delivery. Forget about a 6 zone pass. If you're seeing normal tourist sights, a central zone pass (zones 1-2) is all you need. If you're thinking about Kew Gardens or Heathrow, buy a ticket at the station just for that. Someone else mentioned a photocard - it is NOT needed for a London Visitor TravelCard. Enjoy your trip!! - Mark On Sun, 28 Dec 2003 10:10:57 -0000, "John Rowland" wrote: Crossposted to uk.transport.london... "Miles" wrote in message news:IswHb.24588$J77.16614@fed1read07... Looks like we'll need 3, possibly 4 days zone 1 and 2 but will need to purchase individual tickets to get to/from heathrow. The 6 zone Visitors Card is $43USD. Doesn't sound like it would really save us all that much over just buying the 1 day passes and a couple individual tickets when we arrive at Heathrow. |

I wonder if I buy a voucher prior to Jan.4th for a visit starting Jan.10th I'll be able to buy at the lower price. I'm not sure about that but if you can get the voucher before you get to the UK, there is a 33% discount on prices. You can get a Visitors Travel Card for Zones 1 - 2 or 1- 6 and they are full travel cards which will allow you to use National Rail within your chosen zones. A Visitor's Travel Card is a completely different product from the Travel Cards you'd be able to buy once you reach London and you will not need a Photocard for one whichever zone combination you choose. You really should look at the website suggested earlier. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/nftt_visitor.shtml -- Kat Reality is the leading cause of stress among those in touch with it. |
