Default Oyster PAYG And Replacement Buses

Just a thought.

As the Victoria Line is closed tomorrow, what is the situation
regarding people with Oyster PAYG and getting on a replacement bus? Do
you have to touch in on the bus, and if when you do get on the tube
does the system recognise it as one throught journey.

Suppose I wanted to go from Walthamstow to Victoria tomorrow. I could
touch in on the replacement bus, but would it deduct a fare, and if so
would it be the bus fare or the tube fare? When I get on the tube at
Manor House, would the system treat this as two journeys Walthamstow -
Manor House and Manor House - Victoria, or just one journey
Walthamstow - Victoria?

Generally, there are no Oyster pads on the contract buses hired for
replacement services or, if there are, they are set to register a zero
fare if anyone touches in. Those whose journey involves only the
replacement bus generally travel for free, although there may be a
member of LU staff on the bus checking that people have, for instance, a
valid Oyster that would cover the cost of the journey if any charge were
to be levied.

If you are using the replacement bus for only part of your journey, LU
generally set up temporary OSIs at stations along the route so that
Oyster can correctly calculate the fare for the total through journey.

You won't have to touch-in on the replacement bus (or if you do have to, a
zero pence fare will be registered).

The other weekend when I was on a replacement bus for part of the District line,
the driver said not to touch in. Basically the replacement bus portion of the
journey was unrecorded.

If there are Oyster card readers on replacement buses, then they'll either
be turned off or will otherwise be configured to 'charge' a 0p (zero pence)
fare - no-one should worry about touching-in on any on-bus Oyster reader and
being charged a bus fare, or some sort of incomplete Tube fare.

No, you don't know what you're talking about - each time a driver starts a
duty on a regular bus route, they have to activate / sign-on with the bus
machine with the relevant information about that particular duty, and when
they finish their duty they have to sign off (including when a bus swaps
drivers) - I think this process also occurs when a bus has got to the end of
the route, and again when the bus starts back the other way again. I've got
the terminology wrong I'm sure, but not the basic facts - I'd suggest
there's almost no chance a bus would go out on rail replacement duty with
the ticket machine still primed for action as if it it were on a regular
service.

Yeah , just like theres no chance of an oyster gate reader getting it wrong.
Oh , hang on...
