http://www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/2011...n-underground/ Vintage tube trains, sounds like a good day out in Amersham for those wishing to brave Travelcard Zone 9 (though do remember that your travelcard can't be used to ride the special trains). It's a bit expensive though. Even I, as an enthusiast of old trains, baulk at the thought of spending £15 for a short ride on the 1938 train, though if you have kids it could be a cheap day out as it's only £5 for kids. This is for the 1938 train, but as an incentive tickets do include unlimited journeys on the 1923 Sarah Siddons train (which makes it a more attractive option, although there's no guarantee you'll get a place on the Sarah Siddons - on Ian's blog it says "but also include unlimited free trips on Sarah Siddons if seats are available." From that it appears that they're not allowing people to stand on this journey (which will also take away some of the authenticity of the experience), and I guess that the likelihood of seats being available will be pretty low, as it's only £5 for a ticket on the Siddons train, and as I said it's free if you have bought a ticket for the 1938 train. However, it does sound like a fun day out, furthermore it's a Sunday so I am sure many here on this group will attend! |

I've been at most of these events and there has never been a problem with available space on this train. It's three locomotives on four carriages, so there's no shortage of power, and the stewards don't count people on and off anyway! |

I remember last year (maybe the year before that) when a photographer was accosted at Amersham (?) by a jobsworth member of staff (PCO?) about taking pics of Sarah Siddons. Also are they only selling tickets in advance via the web as they did last year? I'd prefer to turn up (if I can get there), pay and go. CJB |

I was happily snapping away at Amersham, Watford and Harrow at the last few heritage events (along with dozens of others) and had no problems at all. Many of the people taking photos were staff themselves! Are you sure you're not thinking of the incident at Upminster (prior to the depot open day) when some little jobsworth got upset over a couple of enthusiasts taking pictures of Sarah on a transfer move? (My understanding is that butts were kicked over that one, and the enthusiasts concerned received apologies from LU and a (non-financial) gesture of goodwill). |
