When I was looking up pictures of Thameslink, I stumbled across these
photographs: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ianvisits/6328787803/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/ianvisits/6328793981/ They show the 3d model of bank from a public exhibition on the proposed bank upgrade. They only show two angles, and miss the most interesting one. But then I also found this document: http://www.london.gov.uk/moderngov/m...F.aspx?ID=7858 Which contains a 3D picture of the other main angle, on page 15. purple is the proposed new bit. It seems like the old southbound tunnel is going to become a moscow-metro style platform for the northbound. Beyond the platform its cut off to the south, and the north seems to be turned into a new passage, leading to escalators (green) and a lift to the central line. There's a new concourse passage between the northern line platforms (the northbound and new south), joining the old southbound platform to the north, and lifts to the new exit. Apparently there's also a new escalator down to the DLR, but I can't work out where. Additionally, on page 13, there is a top down flat view, which is interesting in its own right. It puts to the lie the claim that the Waterloo & City can't be extended to moorgate because of bank vaults. The proposed new northern line tunnel runs right under the Midland bank and Natwest bank. And the W & C platforms clearly end far enough away from the northern line for it to have the room to dive down under the central line. And since its possible for the northern line to have a new tunnel as far as lothbury, it must be possible to extend the W&C to join the northern city line, because that had already had an official planned extension, with permission, to lothbury. As a bonus, there's a 3D picture of TCR, after the upgrade on page 2. -red appears to be disabled access, but I'm not sure what green is. It looks like it might be a replacement for the old long stairs from the central line to the northern, but perhaps its a fire exit? I'd love to know why TfL don't show these diagrams on their website. |

I love that abstract scroll-work ornamentation on the glass curtain wall overlooking the main station - quite redolent of the iron decorative elements in the old train sheds. -- Mark |
