I thought a trip yesterday to Shoreditch High St was an ideal opportunity to try out the Overground, but connections to the Cambridge lines are hopeless. In what sense hopeless, physically or timetable incompatibilities? A bit of both. One suggested route was via Kings Cross, then back up to Highbury and then change to Overground. In practice it's quicker to walk from Old St. There isn't a direct interchange between the lines, and very few of the faster mainline trains stop at Finsbury Park (to change for Highbury). You do seem to have found a particularly awkward destination to try. Hammersmith & City line to Whitechapel and change? Works for both Kings X and Liverpool St. I think another time I might try Cambridge to Tottenham Hale, then Victoria Line to Highbury and change again. Problem is it's difficult to beat the ~45min fast trains from Cambridge to Kings Cross, as soon as you start wanting an intermediate station. A quick look at that option would indicate a journey time of between 1hr 20 and 1 hr 35 as opposed to around 1hr 10 using the fast train and Victoria Line & LO. Might be cheaper though, didn't check fares. -- Graeme Wall This account not read, substitute trains for rail. Railway Miscellany at http://www.greywall.demon.co.uk/rail |
