Mind you Boris has said that Crossrail should be called the "Queen Elizabeth Line" today. Funny I thought it was called Crossrail which is a very long standing name which people seem to understand. Well the "Channel Tunnel Rail Link" has effectively been renamed "High Speed 1" which is less informative even if it does carry non Channel services on it. Is there any precedent for naming what is really a National Rail service, albeit procured by TfL? Only LU has named lines. Others have been mentioned but there's also the North London Line name which was in heavy use in BR/NR days. I think the GOBLIN and the West London Line are unofficial though. Boris's suggestion will simply become the "Queenie Tube" or "Lizzie Line" or somesuch. The proposed name is too long - tube lines are nearly always named with a single word (Victoria) or composite (Bakerloo). East London had some geographic reasoning as did Hammersmith and City although that's a recent invention. Wasn't there a Hammersmith & City Railway who built part of that line originally? -- My blog: http://adf.ly/4hi4c |

Saw this article on the BBC website. Whilst it will probably never come to fruition, does anyone have any amusing suggestions regarding renamings for stations and lines? Arsenal to change Arsenal to Emirates. Wasn't Arsenal itself a case of sponsorship renaming? West Ham to change Upton Park to Olympic Park. There are enough problems already with football and station names here. You'd be looking to rename both Stratfords (admittedly one of them could be made more accurate) rather than having people roaming Green Street in search of the new stadium. -- My blog: http://adf.ly/4hi4c |

I see someone's created an example of a fully sponsored Tube map in Time Out. I don't know how long ago it was done (probably quite recently), but the map it's based on is a few years old (pre-Overground): http://now-here-this.timeout.com/wp-...-tube-map1.gif |

However, in the middle is "Vodafone Sol" station. http://www.metromadrid.es/export/sit...nomayo2013.pdf Is this any worse than the massive Army and Navy blob at St James' Park? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/clive.b...maps/1908.html Richard. |

They missed out an obvious pun on Baker street though I can't watch the video. However, in the middle is "Vodafone Sol" station. I distinctly remember Capital FM being plastered all over the floor at leicester square for years back in the early 2000s so it wouldn't be a new thing for them. But lets just hope they leave the map alone. -- Spud |

However, in the middle is "Vodafone Sol" station. http://www.metromadrid.es/export/sit...nomayo2013.pdf One of the Madrid Metro stations is essentially for the "Telefonica campus", which might be a good case for corporate branding. "Ronda de la Comunicación", currently. (Near the north end of line 10) Is this any worse than the massive Army and Navy blob at St James' Park? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/clive.b...maps/1908.html And Chancery Lane for Gamages, perhaps. -- Roland Perry |
