It might be simpler for TfL to require *National Rail* to issue some 16-25 Railcards on a newly invented "16-25 Oyster" (rather than a bit of card). More fuss for travellers (because the issuing facilities might be restricted to the London area), but a typical "two steps forward, one step back" process 'it were the technology wot made us do it'. Wouldn't that violate the agreements for the use of Oyster on National Rail? "Use of" an Oyster is separate from the arrangements for issuing them. You misunderstand, not for the first time. In order to get TOCs to accept Oyster they had to agree to give railcard discounts on them. -- Colin Rosenstiel |

A combination of online, post and phone. Or perhaps NR ticket offices or the remaining gateway offices. No need to have this facility at every station. So I arrive from Kings Cross (infinite ticket queues) and travel to Westminster. It's the first time I've used Oyster since before last October when I renewed my railcard. I realise when I touch out that I have forgotten to register the new railcard on the Oyster. Now i go to the ticket office at Westminster and cut it fine getting to my meeting. What happens in future? Railcards are appallingly handled on Oyster anyway. You can only find out if one is registered by going to a ticket office, for some weird reason. -- Colin Rosenstiel |

You've got the wrong end of the stick, not for the first time. In order to get TOCs to accept Oyster they had to agree to give railcard discounts on them. I'm not suggesting the TOCs stop giving Railcard discounts. My speculation above is about the process of *issuing* a relevant Oyster with the Railcard 'loaded' onto it. They have to do that before you start making any discounted journeys. My head is hurting too much from the Perry brick wall too. -- Colin Rosenstiel |

Your problem, if you can't tell the difference between issuing a smart-card that give a discounted fare, and accepting that card when presented at a gate line. You obviously don't understand how railcards are used with Oyster. -- Colin Rosenstiel |
