At Gatwick, for example, Oyster and Contactless are processed by TfL, while The Key is processed by Southern. There would be no way for Southern to process Contactless (for example) for journeys to Brighton. How would the West Midlands operator process anything north of Watford Junction - or does TfL have to first extend Oyster (accompanied by contactless) to Northampton and beyond? I see the future for ticketing in the South East being Contactless (and the new back Office Oyster, which in terms of processing will just be a type of Contactless card) for PAYG journeys, with ITSO cards being used for seasons and carnets. -- Roland Perry TfL would have to expand Contactless (rather than the present Oyster setup). I can foresee classic (the present non-back office) Oyster cards not being useable north of Watford Junction. |
