A 32 page supplement in the middle of the new edition of RAIL, should be something in there for everyone. Particularly people who delight in spotting clangers. For example, it tells us on page 45 that, "TfL is investigating running trains every 100 seconds on the Jubilee and Piccadilly Lines, both of which use relatively modern trains that will not be modified". Perhaps Rail meant the Northern line, rather than the Picc, with its 40 year old stock? It also tells us on page 57 that the Night Tube is, "making it much easier to travel to and from Heathrow Airport on the Central Line". Perhaps someone should tell Rail that the Central Line Night Tube gets no nearer to Heathrow than Ealing Broadway. We are reminded in large letters on each page of the supplement that it was sponsored by Alstom, and it includes must-read articles like, "Alstom's BERTRAND DELPIERRE tells Paul Stephen how 2016 is shaping up to be yet another successful year for the company's innovative metro offering". This is the same Alstom that shut its Washwood Heath Tube train factory more than a decade ago, and which has won no UK train orders since the Pendolino top-up order. |
