The new six-car trains are based on the TL 700s, but with cab-end doors,
WiFi and power sockets, but no first class, toilets or tray tables. Siemens hasn't made Hitachi's mistake with the windscreens, which look almost flat. Despite the cab-end doors, the driver's position is surprisingly spacious, with an instrument panel that can swing aside if the door needs to be used. Service entry is in September, with all due in service by January 2019. http://www.railwaygazette.com/news/traction-rolling-stock/single-view/view/great-northern-class-717-emus-unveiled.html |
