My understanding is that the new St Pancras Thameslink station is opening next year. The line is being split in September to facilatate work with trains from the south terminating at Kings Cross Thameslink( a crossover is being constructed) or Blackfriars. Trains from the north will run into the new part of St Pncras being constructed on it's east side. I for one hope that Kings Cross Thameslink remains open when St Pancras Thamselink station opens as it provides useful connections to the Underground which the new station will not have. Which useful connections to LU will St Pancras Thameslink "not have"? Or are you just saying that some will be less convenient? -- Richard J. (to e-mail me, swap uk and yon in address) |

"Heliomass" wrote in message I was thinking today, what is going to happen to the existing Kings Cross Thameslink when the new underground St. Pancras station opens? Blown off the face of the earth I hope. It has to be the worst station on the UK rail network in terms of facilities and environment in relation to the number of passengers using it. If I understood a recent Modern Railways itme correctly, there is presently some doubt as to whether or not the new KX-SP-CTRL station will be completed ahead of TL2000 works. As the latter has yet to be authorised, I interpreted that as it may not be opened. I hope thats either wrong or I mis-read it. The Thameslink route is being closed for six months over the summer with trains to/from the north terminating at St Pancras and to/from the south terminating at King's Cross Thameslink - so I hope they're building the station in the meantime otherwise it's a waste of time! AIUI St Pancras Midland Road should be ready way before TL2K. -- Dave Arquati Imperial College, SW7 www.alwaystouchout.com - Transport projects in London |

Sorry to shout but it is worth it in this case. If I understood a recent Modern Railways itme correctly, there is presently some doubt as to whether or not the new KX-SP-CTRL station will be completed ahead of TL2000 works. om... I for one hope that Kings Cross Thameslink remains open when St Pancras Thamselink station opens as it provides useful connections to the Underground which the new station will not have. Although they will be a quite near each other the distance will still be further then between Blackfriars and City Thameslink. Though Kings Cross Thameslink will have to close if train lengths ever got increased to 12, nevertheless while the whole Thameslink 2000 project remains in abeyance they should not close the station. Faringdon is a far better interchange with LU. The odds are that you can get from there to where you want to be quicker than walking from the new Thameslink St Pancras station. -- Terry Harper, Web Co-ordinator, The Omnibus Society 75th Anniversary 2004, see http://www.omnibussoc.org/75th.htm E-mail: URL: http://www.terry.harper.btinternet.co.uk/ |

To use it you have to have a ticket valid on the Underground because you have to go through an Underground gateline and the route is much slower and more convoluted than the above ground way. The weather would have to be really atrocious for it to be a sensible route when starting at ground level. Dave. And a devil of a slope, quite a sod after a long days hiking!! The new SP TL station is not due to be opened until 2007. All that is being done for now is building the station box. TL trains on re-instatemnt of the through route after the current planned service split revert to situation as it is now. -- Nick -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

No. They are building the station box not the station. When TL re-opens as a through route after the possession you coreectly describe, TL continues with operationas it is now, the exisitng KX TL, not any new station. The new station is not due to open until 2007 when SP opens for CTRL. What the item in Modern Railways says is that SRA has yet to find the funds for equipping to new TL station. No funds = no station. No station = no 12 cars. etc. etc. -- Nick -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |
