How easy is it to get a PT for the tube? I'm coming down to London next week
from 'oop north' and am hoping to use my BR employee travel pass to get a 'privilege ticket' but have heard from some colleagues that it is nigh on impossible to get one?!? I'm looking at buying an off-peak travel card for zones 1&2, I realise this will cost £5 or so per day but I'm hoping to get discount on that, anyone able to offer advice on how to get one and how much it might cost? Thanx in advance! -- !Speedy Gonzales! to reply, remove the 'OBVIOUS' |

It's a pain you can't buy them in advance and you've got to go to the ticket window but other than that a flash of the pass and there's no problem. They also usually mis-price it to a 75% priv. You can only get an all underground pass not a travel card (that includes buses) as rail staff don't qualify for bus discounts. |

.. . Thanks for the swift reply JB. I only wanted one for the underground so that suits me fine(apart from next Thursday!) but you mention how they usually mis-price it? What discount should we get as I was led to believe we got 75% off, or am I wrong? -- !Speedy Gonzales! to reply, remove the 'OBVIOUS' |

Technically Ex-BR staff get 75% discount on season tickets and 50% discount on turn-up-and-travel tickets. |

Talking of priv rates on LUL, why is that ticket office staff always have problems in issuing priv rate extensions? I've had some LUL staff deny they exist or have great difficulty pushing the right keys. Most of the ones I buy to go further than my Zone 1 & 2 priv rate annual won't operate the gates the other end. -- Phil Richards London, N4 |

Priv tickets are issued via the standard single/return section on the TOM
then the category is changed to priv then we have to look at a table for the priv rate. So it takes a little longer. To get priv travel you must be in possession of a Priv Pass otherwise a priv will not (or should not be issued). One other thing, some staff may ask to have a closer look as some do exclude London Underground from the facility (don't know why). If you are coming in to Kings Cross enjoy the queues upstairs at the temporary ticket office! :-( Steve "Phil Richards" wrote in message ... On Fri, 4 Jun 2004 15:30:45 +0100 JB said... Not correct, 'safeguarded' staff (i.e. ex-BR) have always got 75% discount from all standard tube fares, such as singles and returns, and the same for seasons - although these have to be ordered in advance with a special form from your TOC. No discounts on bus tickets though, as previous posters have mentioned. For example, I bought a single from Waterloo to Paddington last night for 50p - 75% of the normal £2.00 single fare. hth |

I'm sitting here reading my "Welcome to Network South East" (1994) literature telling me what my travel concessions are and it says 75% discount on tube seasons and 50% discount for daily fares. Where did you read your information? For example, I bought a single from Waterloo to Paddington last night for 50p - 75% of the normal £2.00 single fare. hth As I've previously mentioned I'm almost always charged 25% cost also - it doesn't mean it's correct. |

So the machine can't calculate 75% of the normal fare or extension? Amazing! BR's APTIS system IIRC simply has a button marked PRIV which works out the reduction. One other thing, some staff may ask to have a closer look as some do exclude London Underground from the facility (don't know why). I always show my (a) LUL Zones 1 & 2 Season (b) BR Priv card which has endorsement 1 on it Endorsements 9, 10 & 11 aren't valid on LUL services. If you are coming in to Kings Cross enjoy the queues upstairs at the temporary ticket office! :-( Thankfully rarely have to queue up at Central London stations. My local station is Finsbury Park where I have the choice of the WAGN ticket or LUL. The former are usually quicker than LUL (shorter queues, less faffing about) despite being by the opposite entrance to the one I use. -- Phil Richards London, N4 |

Yep,
as LUL are in zones you have to key in the single/return fare as you don't name the stations. That's why we have to do the same thing for priv. Steve "Phil Richards" wrote in message T...
