Especially if we fail to get the Olympics. The Olympics are irrelevant as Crossrail can't be built in time for them anyway. Therefore it would be better to withdraw the Olympic bid! The transport chaos of London hosting Olympics without Crossrail would be an embarassment, but all London's transport problems are relatively easy to solve. Even in their simplest, cheapest forms, Crossrail 1 and TL2K would make it a lot easier to get around as well as solving the overcrowding problems. Further schemes, including Crossrail 2, would give London a truly impressive transport system. Despite the often repeated claims to the contrary, this is not London's only chance at hosting the Olympics and Stratford is not the only suitable site in London. I can think of possible alternative sites at Beckton and Dagenham, and there are probably other alternatives I haven't thought of. |
