Currently have a complement of 86 4 car units making 43 train sets. The new
ones will be 8 cars long so no wasted middle cabs, 1 complete unit less......after all they will be ultra reliable etc etc...... And once they are in the frequency will increase. Currently must have 1 spare train set minimum in the contract at the depot. The requirement for a Mon to Fri peak is 37 trains for the current timetable introduced on 04/07/04. As for the windows......artistic licence the man said....so he took it. I will find out some more info on this and post later. Management (and unions), have visited Derby and seen a mock up.... Unrelated interesting fact: Its 21.25kms from Walthamstow to Brixton and the scheduled kms in passenger service is 16,287.4kms a day.....(not each!) Plus all that running up the depot and back. Unfortunately it lacks the 92 stock's curved windows, so you won't be able to tip your head back and look at the clouds... ;-) Seriously though, those windows are very small. They look like they might be small enough to make it a bit tricky to see what station you're at. I don't think they are very different from 1995 or 1996 stock (not that I'm a great fan of them). Compare with this photo of a 95 at Morden: http://world.nycsubway.org/perl/show?12422 The artist's view of the new Vic stock simulates a wide-angle lens, accentuating the front and making the side windows look smaller. -- Richard J. Lots of space for adverts above the windows, but also what looks like full-width passageways between carriages. With so many seats removed, it looks very spacious indeed. It mentions the carriages are for Bakerloo-Victoria-Central. |

I think windows which are small (but not unhelpfully so) is quite a good idea on the Victoria line because it means that less light will be lost out the windows so the interior should be a bit brighter. -- message by the incredible Robin May. Articulation should provide for a much more balanced load help to avoid trains being empty at one end and full at the other which I find common on LUL. That will be fine on the Victoria Line because it's devoid of tight curves, but benditrains on curvier lines sound lethal. I know it works on the Croydon trams, but they are not as packed as a tube train. -- John Rowland - Spamtrapped Transport Plans for the London Area, updated 2001 http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acro...69/tpftla.html A man's vehicle is a symbol of his manhood. With so many seats removed, it looks very spacious indeed. It mentions the carriages are for Bakerloo-Victoria-Central. ISTR the fully articulated (space train) concept had been abandoned for the Victoria line in favour of more traditional stock. The filename for the picture with the full-width passageways is /2_EN_SubSurface_int_LowRes.jpg, which implies that it is probably the interior of the new SSL stock. The other interior picture has 'bakerloo' in the filename, which probably means it's the new stock for BCV. -- Spyke Address is valid, but messages are treated as junk. This may be true in general, but trams from Wimbledon in the evening peak are packed solid; people are left behind on the platform because the capacity is inadequate. -- John Ray, London UK. |
