A 7-day card (costing 20.20 GBP) is better value, unless you happen to
be here for a weekend, in which case you can get a weekend travel card
for 6.40 and three off-peak one-day cards for 12.90 (total 19.30).
However, you won't be able to start your travels until after 9.30 on the
three weekdays, so it is still likely that the flexibility of a 7-day
card offers better value.

Note that you can get a Visitor Travelcard for Zones 1 & 2, lasting for
3,4 or 7 days. These must be purchased before arrival - they can't be
bought in London. A 7-day is (I think) 33.50 euros (about 23.50 GBP) -
although slightly more expensive, they come with a book of discount
vouchers for some of the main attractions.

I read about these Visitors Travelcards but someone tells they are sold in
London as well. I really dont'know.
Are they convenient? What kind of attractions have a reduction?

So, is it only the Visitor Tc lasts for 3, 4 or 7 days?

Another question: the one-day is for the 24h or just for the day in which I
buy it?

Yes, it seems to be down!
I understood the difference peak and off-peak. Things being as they are is
quite worthless buyin a one-day travelcard in the afternoon, right? I mean,
if I buy it at 3.00 pm I cannot use it until the next day at the same hour
(right?) but only untill 4.30 am.
What a mess!

Errr.. no.

You can buy one day travelcards up to 7 days in advance.

They are valid for a specific *date*, with the date starting at midnight
or 0930 and finishing at 0430 the following day.

I frequently buy travelcards in the afternoon for trips to Central
London in the evening...

It might seem odd if you're used to something different but a One-Day
Travelcard is the right choice if you make more than two single
Underground journeys (as Zone 1 single journeys are £2 each but the ODTC
is £4.30) within the same day.

No they are not. The person who said this may be thinking about the
"London Pass". This is a much more expensive commercial card designed
primarily to give free admittance to a large number of attractions - it
can also incorporate a 6-zone offpeak travelcard for an extra payment.

I believe visitor's travelcards are the same as an ordinary travel card,
apart from the discount vouchers.

I always found Visitor Travelcards most convenient, as one does not
have to worry about peaks or not peaks. I did not use the reduction
vouchers too much because they mostly cover all those main tourist
attractions I tend to avoid.

Visitor Travelcards are not (legally) sold in London. You buy a voucher
abroad, and they change it for the real thing at some of the major
stations.

For our last 5-day stay we bought a 4-Day VTC and single tickets for
the journey from the airport to the hotel.
