Think i'll start a few myself...... I did hear that the public sometimes - and I'm sure this can't be true in all cases........ Insert anything here. Insist on using the tube during strike days when normally wild horses wouldn't drag them out of their cars. Noone drives in Zone 1. There's too much traffic. |

I can't agree with you there, it was only the unions which kept firemen and guards on trains in the sixties for safety reasons when the B.R.B. Wanted single manning for economy, bugger the safety. -- Clive. Yes, and had that double-manning (which was insisted on by unions not for safety reasons but to keep jobs for their members) been discontinued, it is arguable that the Beeching axe would have fallen less heavily since the sheer uneconomic nature of the over-manned railways led to the closure of many lines that might otherwise have remained open. If those lines had remained open, the railways and passengers would have benefited ultimately, but this isn't something about which the union leaders at the time could then (as now) give a fig. So going back in time you presumably think the Government were wrong for insisting that train drivers should work a mere eight hours per day with a minimum of twelve hours between shifts? |

get the sack. Carrot and stick approach. Anyone who breaks the
agreement would be fired on the spot, no negotiation. Ah but previously you wanted to 'sack 'em all'. Thats pretty much what a lot of the drivers deserve IMO. However if they signed that deal it would be worth keeping them on. And you don't think your proposals smack of exploitation? Hardly. Explotation is where you're not getting suitable recompense for your efforts. LUL staff already get far MORE than they deserve when compared to other blue collar workers who don't get to sit in a nice cosy air conditioned cab or station most of the day. If anything the workers at LUL are exploiting the public since they know they've got LU over a barrel as there are precious few realistic alternatives to commuting into central london other than by tube so its not the same as the miners striking where coal could be bought from overseas. Have you ever gone over that little white line at the trafffic lights? Thats
a SPAD then, (dont pretend you haven't). Its not as clear cut as going through at 40mph. It may only be 1 inch.....its still a SPAD. And there are many reasons for a SPAD, some dont involve the T/Op. So I think we need a few facts first. "Mait001" wrote in message ... In article , Mait001 writes So you think it's okay for drivers to pass red signals? No. However, I don't think it's okay for drivers to be convicted in kangaroo courts either. -- Clive D.W. Feather I may be wrong, but surely the fact of having passed signals at red is not in dispute - merely the "sentence" that ought to be imposed. That being so, your reference to "convicted in kangaroo courts" is otiose. Marc. |

Lots of the trains have air con and heating IN THE DRIVERS CAB, and compared to a bus drivers job its a piece of ****. No traffic, no steering wheel, no worrying about the next fare sticking a knife at your throat. Hell hole my a*se. Sure they have to train for lots of emergency situations and have to know to do A if B happens or C if D happens, but 99% of their time is spent sitting on their backsides moving a lever back and forth. Yeah , tough life! If they think they're hard done by perhaps they'd like to try door to door selling around various rough east end council estates like I did when I was younger where you risked getting bitten by the some knuckle draggers pitbull or beaten up by the local gang and have all your stuff nicked! Door to door selling....couldn't and therefore wouldn't do it. I can see you
need to spend a day on the railway. I can assure you that not all of them have air-con and some dont see daylight at all during the shift and therefore at this time of year for upto 7 days at a time. Sure its good money. But there is a bit more to it thatn moving a lever. As for the hard life youve had....I used to live in a shoe box in the road. And by the way....why dont the door to door sellers ever go on strike? Your friend Mal "Boltar" wrote in message ups.com... Malcolm & Nika wrote: What planet are you actually from Boltar?
