SWT diagrams are becoming thinner by the week. The Windsor lines became Desiro-worked at the beginning of December but several of the Portsmouth/Haslemere diagrams remain CIG/VEP. I haven't got an up-to-date list of current diagrams but, at the beginning of the year, the following diagrams *out* of Waterloo were slam-door: 2P07 05:20 Portsmouth & Southsea; 2F03 05:50 Woking; 2W13 06:12 Wareham; 2T13 06:42 Portsmouth Harbour; 1P17 08:00 Portsmouth Harbour; 1T17 08:09 Eastleigh & PH; 1P19 08:31 PH; 1B19 08:39 Soton Central; 1P21 09:00 PH; 1T21 09:10 PH; 1P23 09:30 PH; 2L23 09:42 Basingstoke; 2P25 10:15 Haslemere; 1P27 10:30 PH; 1T29 11:09 PH; 1P31 11:30 PH; 1T33 12:09 PH; 2P33 12:15 Haslemere; 1P35 12:30 PH; 1B35 12:39 Soton Central; 2P35 12:45 PH; 1P37 13:00 PH; 1T37 13:09 PH; 2P37 13:15 Haslemere; 1P39 13:30 PH; 1B39 13:39 Soton Central; 1B43 14:39 Soton Central; 2P43 14:45 PH; 1P45 15:00 PH; 2P47 15:45 PH; 1P49 16:00 PH; 1P51 16:30 PH; 2F91 17:02 Guildford; 2N93 17:05 Aldershot via Ascot; 1T53 17:09 PH; 2P53 17:15 Fratton; 2L91 17:23 Basingstoke; 1P55 17:30 PH; 1T55 17:39 PH; 1P57 18:00 PH; 1B57 18:05 Poole; 1T57 18:09 PH; 2L95 18:23 Basingstoke; 1P61 19:00 PH; 2F97 19:02 Woking; 1T61 19:10 PH; 2P61 19:15 Haslemere; 1P67 20:30 PH; 2P67 20:45 P&S; 1P73 22:00 PH; 1P75 22:30 PH; 2L77 23:12 Basingstoke; 2P77 23:15 PH; 2S77 23:22 Weybridge; 2L79 23:48 Basingstoke. Several of the above diagrams have probably been lost during Jan/Feb. South Central diagrams are similarly thinning out as the East Grinstead diagrams go over to Electrostars, the best time to view SC slam-door stock is from about 16:00 at London Bridge. South Eastern Trains diagrams are concentrated on the peak hours now. Again, from about 16:00 London Bridge comes alive with slammers. HTH |

The original railway usage is "a graphical schedule for operating railway locomotives and rolling stock in order to provide a desired service" [New Oxford Dictionary of English, 2001] There's a simple example of a service that uses 4 trains at http://perso.wanadoo.fr/cf-chanterai...is/exploit.htm (scroll down to "diagram of timetable"). The term is often used nowadays (as in Jack Taylor's post) to refer to the set of journeys allocated to a single train formation over the course of, typically, one day. -- Richard J. On Southern nearly all services are now 377s. I haven't seen slammers going towards Lewes/Eastbourne, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The exceptions I know of a 0631/ Hove/ 0640 Brighton to London Bridge 0711 Hove to Victoria 0741 Hove to Victoria 1724 Victoria to Littlehampton/Southampton There are probably still one or two Horsham via Redhill services that are slammers as well. I don't know if the 17.49 weekdays Victoria - Ramsgate still has Ceps (they certainly worked it well into January), but if it does that's the one to go for ! Nick -- http://www.leverton.org/ ...
