Hi,
Can someone explain what I am doing wrong with the above site? I wanted trains to Gatwick from Streatham Hill via Clapham Junction and no matter what time of day I enter it says no trains are available. I does however offer trains via West Norwood and changing again at East Croydon if I don't enter via Clapham Junction. If you know these routes you will know that changing at Clapham Junction is preferable as there is minimal lugging of cases. Two separate enquiries of Streatham Hill to Clapham Junction and then again Clapham Junction to Gatwick come up OK? Does not compute in my book. Thanks for any help, Martin J. |

I had the same a couple of years ago. Wanted to go from Kingston to Selhurst and got sent on some weird circuit via Wimbedon & Streatham taking about an hour. I queried this with the website and was told that via Clapham wasn't a 'permitted route'. I think they assume you don't have a travelcard and want the fewest zone transitions or something. Anyway I did/do have a zone 1-6 and went via Clapham and it took just over 1/2 hour. Sorted. Cheers, John |

The TfL Journey Planner is less fussy, and has no problem offering journeys via Clapham Junction for either Streatham Hill to Gatwick Airport or Kingston to Selhurst. -- Richard J. Enter Gatwick Airport as 'From Town/Village', Streatham Hill as 'To Town/Village' and Clapham Junction as 'Optional Via', with (trains) in 'Stop or Street' and 'Location' boxes and uncheck all options except 'Train' in the lower boxes. From extensive experience I have found this to be the most effective and accurate site online. It isn't perfect, I have found faults, especially in its qualification of input data, but once you get used to its few peculiarities it is my journey planner of choice. |

: Try www.travelinescotland.com. But try going from Charing Cross to Victoria :-) Seriously I have noticed of a number of routing sites (this one, national rail, Deutche Bahn) can send you on routes that are quicker but involve changes that take you outside the validity of your ticket or zone. For example East Dulwich - Tulse Hill - Farringdon East Dulwich - London Bridge - East Croydon -- Andrew Black London |

The www.thetrainline.com has pretty much the same difficulty. I agree with Richard J. - use the TfL site whenever possible. Ant W-M |
