Cannot find any real info as to when the tunnel is or isn't
functioning. The sign at the southern approach is usually blank, or
maybe the rain washes the chalk marks off. The BBC website says

"Northbound Tunnel closed Tuesday nights with a contraflow for north
and southbound traffic in the southbound tunnel. On Wednesday and
Thursday nights one lane is closed in the southbound tunnel"

So, Mon-Thurs it's not completely closed in either direction?

Northern Approach is closed for maintenance southbound from A13 East
India Dock Road to A2203 / Tunnel Avenue. The closure runs from 9pm to
8am and can cause significant delays. This work is expected to continue

So Fri-Sun southbound is closed from 9pm, and northbound is fully
operational?
I feel sorry for foreign drivers trying to fathom this lot out. "The
northern approach is closed southbound" Eh?
