Today's unfortunate incident with the Heathrow Express threw up a really
weird sight at Waterloo. As I was waiting for my much delayed train home, there on Platform 17 was a full HST set doing a non-stop shuttle to Reading - timed for 18:09 in this case. Magnificent and it also made we wonder why they have never thought of running these to Exeter from Waterloo...... (OK, perhaps yes, the old LSWR track was never really as good as the GWR lines to the South West)......? Only downside was I didn't have a camera to records this....... |

HST as in the Intercity 125 used previously (and although limited currently) by Midland Main Line? |

Looked like it - was in Great Western Green.
Didn't know FGW had any 'fag packet' liveried HSTs left, I thought they were all in 'barbie' livery now. If it is green, as you say, it might have been some Mk2s and a Class 57 locomotive, which are still green. FGW have been diverting some HSTs to Waterloo when there's been engineering work between RDG and PAD in the past. |

Hmmm...might be a nice idea if only FGW kept their fleet in as good condition as SWT's 159s. |

FGW had plenty of green HST power cars and trailers last time I looked. ...which must have been a long time ago ! David |

Colin Rosenstiel writes FGW had plenty of green HST power cars and trailers last time I looked. Saw one in Paddington about 6 weeks ago. Both power cars and the entire train was in green and yuk. By the way, just to stir up things a little, why does the HST have Paxman units when the most unreliable 800 wasn't even the MAN units but the Paxman engined 830 which had Mekyrdro transmissions, much more reliable than the Voith. I wonder just what politics came into this decision, just as the one for ridding the W.R. Of Diesel Hydraulics. -- Clive |
