What is going on, pretty much all this week delays etc.
Yesterday late engineering works led to severe delays *all day*. Today severe delays due to non-availability of trains?? |

There is an intermitten problem with the trains, they are being checked
by fleet staff at Alstom. Station staff are being used to ride in the cab as well, to "double man". |

The tripcocks are defective and may not operate when a train is
'tripped' at slow speed. The news is being 'sat on' with delays put down to 'signal failures'. |

One could suspect that they are trying to justify their second closure of the Bank branch for the second attempt at fixing it. |

The normal testers only check that the tripcock is 1) in place, 2) in
gauge - the present problem was caused when a train was tripped travelling at slow speed (not "in slow speed") and the tripcock effectively reset itself, thus failed to operate the Tripcock Pressure Switch which applies the brakes. |

That's what's not happening - the tripcock was pushed back by the
raised trainstop but then sprang back to the vertical position rather than latch up and allow the main line air to vent (thus operating the pressure switch). Had the train been tripped at a faster speed, a good 'whack' would have ensured the tripcock was knocked back and up. Seems odd that the Jubilee Line has not been forced to double-man trains too, or indeed that HRMI haven't 'grounded' the whole 1995/96TS as was done with the 1992TS after Chancery Lane. |
