Perhaps you have an HRH in front of you name and then they might be
interested. Otherwise you're paranoid. It allows LT to see where
the majority of journeys happen and can plan accordingly.

They can do that without knowing my name and address.

No they can't, they can know where most stared, and most end, but not
where the starters go or where the finishers started. If you want a
better service for London you'll get an Oyster, if you want to moan that
your service is overcrowded and under funded then carry on as you are,
giving TfL no feedback at all.

I find that sentence very difficult to parse.

Are you trying to say it's essential from them to not only track my
journey across London (and be able to reconcile it with every other
journey I make across London - both possible with an anonymous system),
but also that they need to know the address from which I started the
journey on foot in the morning, and finished at night (but not the
addresses I visited during the day).

If they absolutely need that additional information I'd be happy to give
them the first half of my postcode, which is plenty. It's 100 miles from
London, but obviously if you think it's vital for them...

There is a data protection issue here, isn't there. The collection of
name and address is for different purposes (e.g. returning a lost Oyster
to you, mailshots) from the collection of data about journeys made
(making better service provision). It might be illegal to bring the two
together. If you are really worried, I suggest you ask them explicitly.

Data Protection is no safeguard against the sort of clandestine use
feared by those anxious to protect their privacy.

Paranioa about things like this is only going to hurt the cause when a
real threat - the NIR - comes on the scene.

As this is a travel group it must mean:
Northern Ireand Railways.

(Opps I initially wrote Island).

Tim

(Actually, I presume he means National Identity Register)

You can be tracked all over the place by several means. Mobile
'phone, security cameras plus face recognition, credit card use ..
doubtless more I haven't thought of and more to come in the future.

Learn to live with it. It's useful in tracing wrong-doers. It isn't
going to go away.
