My rather old "Guinness Book of Answers" gives a 1985 population of 213,600 for the Valetta conurbation. http://www.world-gazetteer.com/wg.ph...npan&col=aohdq And the question that you also need answering is how much does the population increase by each week when the tourists arrive (and for how many weeks). tim |

catchment: a large part of the working population + students + elderly
+ tourists tourists count to around 1 million visitors each year with about 2/3 in the summer months. So the population basically doubles in the summertime. |

I'm reliably informed that the Maltese government wishes to upgrade harbour facilities at Valetta, and posibly elsewhere, to deal with a greatly increased cruise traffic. Do your suggested LRT facilities include any provisions for serving the harbour area? Brian |

![]() BH Williams wrote: Do your suggested LRT facilities include any provisions for serving the harbour area? definately.the harbour area is both heavily populated and suffers inadequate parking facilities. the mideaval roads are narrow and do not have many parking spaces.most houses are of historical age and were not built with a garage. there are only a few roads leading into these areas, the limitations being the fortifications which surround the area. i would think that demand in this area for such a railway would be large. |

The newer lines include underground build and were much more expensive. Why was a DLR created and not an extention to the Tube? because it was cheap. tim |
