Maybe somewhere towards the west end of the Central line - you'd have a two hop commute to Liverpool Steet/Chelmsford and she'd have a relatively easy drive once on the M4 against the flow of traffic. Ealing/Greenford areas? I have the dubious pleasure of driving J8/9 to J5 of the M4 every day. The traffic going out of town may not be quite as bad as mine but it's not good. |

My girlfriend and I currently live in Woking.
She works in Bracknell (30 minute drive). If I were to get a job in Chelmsford - where is a good place to live for a reasonable commute for both of us ? (the middle is about central London - bit pricey). Depends how pricey you can afford - how far from Bracknell station does she work? I'd have said somewhere closer to London, maybe somewhere around Clapham Junction/Twickenham/Richmond might be an idea. It's all pretty pricey around there though. -- Called Pete? Chelmsford - where is a good place to live for a reasonable commute for both of us ? Watford or Dorking? Nightmare drive for her, though. And not much better for you. Frankly, I think that either one of you, perhaps both, will have a nightmare commute around the M25. Crossrail will make a difference: it'll mean that anywhere that'll get you to Paddington or Liverpool St. will make the "long" commute much easier by train. The "Long" commute will still be over an hour, though. Aye, somewhere like Twyford would be a good idea - traffic wise Bracknell's a very easy drive, particularly if it's somewhere on the Western Industrial Estate, or out towards the ice rink (HP/Dell), and you've got two fast trains into Paddington in the rush hour, that take around 25-30 minutes. Without crossrail though, it's still a pain the other way. -- Called Pete? Join The Pete Collective NOW at www.thepetecollective.co.uk |

East London/Docklands area? Somewhere on the Jubilee Line and DLR.
Canary Wharf/Isle of Dogs or nearby isn't as expensive as you might think. Really depends on the sort of property you want to live in and your budget. Chelmsford can be got to from Limehouse and Jubilee line to Waterloo is 12 minutes. With a fast train to woking. You could be there in less than an hour. And Bracknell's about an hour from Waterloo, which is actually where she'll be commuting to :-) -- Called Pete? Join The Pete Collective NOW at www.thepetecollective.co.uk |

DERWENT Two commutes - suggestions for where to live ?
6 Dec 2005 02:37:46 -0800, How to resolve this ?? My girlfriend and I currently live in Woking. She works in Bracknell (30 minute drive). If I were to get a job in Chelmsford - where is a good place to live for a reasonable commute for both of us ? Watford. Gerrards Cross. Beaconsfield. PRAR -- http://www.i.am/prar/ and http://prar.fotopic.net/ As long as people will accept crap, it will be financially profitable to dispense it. --Dick Cavett Please reply to the newsgroup. I would go for somewhere around Angel, personally. It ain't cheap but
if you rent a flat you shouldn't find it that much dearer than Wimbledon. Will be a 1h15m commute for both of you if you both work near the respective stations. |

My girlfriend and I currently live in Woking. She works in Bracknell (30 minute drive). If I were to get a job in Chelmsford - where is a good place to live for a reasonable commute for both of us ? Watford. Gerrards Cross. Beaconsfield. I'd have said with jobs in those two places, having somewhere roughly half way between by car (i.e. near-ish the M25) would not be a particularly great solution at all. Leaving by 7am at the latest will be a must to get to either Bracknell or Chelmsford and guarantee a clear run, otherwise there's the potential of endless problems on the roads. Of course it all depends on how flexible working hours are, but I'd either be within a hassle-free drive of one and reasonable train ride of the other, or midway by train for both. -- Called Pete? You could also try ditching her and finding another one more local to
where you work. |
