John Rowland wrote: Bus 382 started today (Saturday). It was supposed to serve Parkside Gardens in South Barnet, and since I happened to be in the area for an unrelated reason and noticed the 382 plate on a bus stop, I decided to park the car and wait to see the new bus. After 2 buses in each direction failed to materialise, I asked some locals who informed me that the buses couldn't fit through Parkside Gardens and had been diverted via Osidge Lane. There was no warning on any of the bus stops. Doesn't surprise me at all. TfL has a plan to alter 224 and 226, but didn't realise until I told them that this would involve the bus passing through a 6'6" width restriction. Their response? The plans are still in place and they're arranging with the borough to add a bus gate to the restriction. It's quite possible that the changes will go ahead on time and the bus gate will follow some months later. Any diversionary route will be at least a mile longer, on congested roads. Colin McKenzie |

... Actually, the 382 ran via Parkside Gardens until 10am, when a demonstartion by NIMBYs who live in the road meant that buses were unable to serve it. These NIMBYs were presumably the people I spoke to. That's why they said it would be running on Monday, because they'll be back at work then! -- John Rowland - Spamtrapped Transport Plans for the London Area, updated 2001 http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acro...69/tpftla.html A man's vehicle is a symbol of his manhood.
