(S) If you are talking about Paddington it is not Qinetiq, but I'm sure they are involved in the trials elsewhere. |

But, why would you want to object if you have nothing to hide? "In the next 24 hours I've got three [pointless] security scans at three separate airports to go through. I'm already sick at the thought of security scans. I don't want another. [Exactly how do you think this is helping the security of the railway anyway? Are you going to start setting up scans at every country halt? No? Well what good are you doing then? Just wasting people's time really aren't you?]" Will be my reason. Except for the bits in the brackets, which will be silent. Philip. |

Strange, the last time I took a flight from Manchester, I checked myself and my baggage in at terminal 1, wandered round Boots, had a look at the planes taking off from the comfort of the over-priced cafe-bars, went Odd. 9m Birminghan airport. before gt0o9mg through check-in BGViitd 89 1 and got a paper, then finally headed to "Departures" roughly an hour after checking in. Until I passed through the "Departures" door, anybody could have remained with me. I believe that other UK airports give passengers the same choice of either going directly to the airside - through the security checks and the departure lounge, or can remain landside - where anybody can go with no checks, until a later time. Chris Pemberton ) gurgled happily, sounding
much like they were saying : had a look at the planes taking off from the comfort of the over-priced cafe-bars Blimey... you can just picture the queue muttering, as an A320 taxis, pausing only to grab a croissant and espresso before hitting full thrust at about the till. |

I've never known that. You don't get past the check in desk without a passport and ticket in any airport I've been in this last 15 years Departing from Manchester terminal 1 - check-in hall, then departure lounge with shops and restaurants, which also provides access to terminal 3 - freely accessible to all, then through a door which is for passengers only, and which leads to a boarding pass check, then the security control. There is no passport check until you go through the departure gate for your flight. -- Regards Mike |

I'm familiar with both LHR Terminal 3 and LGW North Terminal; at both of these a non-passener can accompany a passenger as far as passport check, though at LHR3 you have to be a bit sneaky. -- James Farrar . @gmail.com |
